For tattoo studios

Websites for tattoo studios

Clients choose the artist, not the studio. Your site should be built that way round.

Tattooing is one of the few trades where the customer is buying a specific person's hand rather than a business's service, and it is permanent, which changes everything about how the decision gets made. I build studio websites organised around individual artists and their styles, because that is how clients actually search and how they actually choose.

What your customer is actually deciding

Someone has been thinking about a piece for months, sometimes years. They have a folder of saved images and they are looking for an artist whose existing work already looks like what is in their head. Style is the filter, not location and not price, and a client will travel a long way for the right hand. Beneath that sits a second, quieter check about hygiene and licensing that nobody asks out loud but everybody makes.

Where most tattoo studios’ websites go wrong

Portfolios presented as one undifferentiated studio gallery, so a client looking for fine line work has to scroll past traditional and realism to find out whether anyone there does what they want. The second failure is no per-artist pages, when the artist is the product. The third is a booking process that is only explained in a direct message, when clients want to know about deposits and consultations before they get in touch.

Someone wants a fine line botanical piece on a forearm and has been collecting references for six months. They search for that style plus their nearest city, not for tattoo studios generally. If your site is one mixed gallery, they cannot tell in ten seconds whether anyone in the studio works that way, and they move on to a studio that has a page for the artist who does.

The pages a tattoo studio actually needs

Not a generic five-page template. These are the pages that earn their place on a tattoo studio website.

  • 01

    A page for each artist

Name, styles, their own portfolio, and whether their books are open. This is the single highest-value change most studio sites can make, because it matches how clients search and lets each artist be found on their own name.

  • 02

    Portfolio split by style

Fine line, traditional, realism, blackwork, cover-ups. A client filtering by style finds their answer in seconds instead of scrolling through work that was never relevant to them.

  • 03

    Booking, deposits and consultations

What a deposit costs, whether it comes off the price, how consultations work, and your cancellation policy. Saying it once on the site saves the same conversation being typed out several times a week.

  • 04

    Aftercare

Genuinely useful, endlessly re-read by clients in the week after their appointment, and one of the few pages in this trade that attracts search traffic from people who are not booking anything yet.

  • 05

    Hygiene and licensing

Your local authority registration, single-use needles, how the studio is cleaned. Nobody asks and everybody wonders, particularly first-timers and the friend they brought along.

Three mistakes worth fixing first

If you do nothing else with your current site, start here. All three are cheap to put right.

  • 01

One studio gallery instead of artist pages

Clients pick a person, not a premises. A single mixed gallery hides your artists behind each other and means none of them can be found by name, which is exactly what a returning client types.

  • 02

The booking process only exists in DMs

Deposits, consultation length and cancellation terms get explained one message at a time, forever. Putting them on a page saves hours a month and makes the studio look organised rather than chaotic.

  • 03

    Nothing about hygiene

It is the unasked question behind every first tattoo. A short, plain page about registration and single-use equipment costs nothing and removes the hesitation that stops nervous first-timers booking.

What people type when they need a tattoo studio

Roughly the shape of the searches worth being found for. Put your own town where the brackets are, because local intent is where a small business can genuinely outrank a bigger one.

  • tattoo studio [your town]
  • fine line tattoo artist near me
  • cover up tattoo specialist
  • tattoo apprentice [your town]
  • walk in tattoo [your town]

I set this up during the build rather than selling it back to you afterwards as an SEO package. What I will not do is promise you the top spot, because nobody can honestly promise that.

What it costs

A website for a tattoo studio starts at £1,000 for up to five pages, live in about two weeks. You get one number in writing before anything starts, and it does not move unless you ask for something that was not in the brief. Hosting and your domain run separately at roughly £100 to £150 a year, and the care plan is optional.

The full breakdown is on the pricing page. You talk to me the whole way through, because there is nobody else to talk to. I have been doing this for 12 years and I am still reachable after launch, with 30 days of free tweaks while you settle in.
